What are you having problems with?

My Cpu is just really slow, my other cpu is a little bit newer (year or two) and it just runs so smooth and i have 10x more programs on my newer cpu.... example when i run sims 2 it's really laggy, and even when im not playing sims, it still lags alot.  There both Dell's any idea's??

If you have the dell reinstall disk, the best way IMO would be to go ahead and reinstall windows. It'll make it just as fast as it was when it was new.

True, But I just recently did that (well I installed vista instead of xp) Would it be faster if i went back to xp?  Let me know what you think....

First of all, since I forgot before; Welcome to xTechForum!

Was vista fast when you first installed it or did it get slower after some time?

For me vista is a bit faster, but I suppose it depends on your system specs. What CPU do you have and how much ram do you have?

If you have user made gadgets on your vista sidebar, there are several that are known to cause issues with system performance, try taking them off, or disabling the sidebar altogether just to see if it goes away so you can try and locate which one if its the problem.

Also, just for curiosity's sake, how did you find out about this forum? I like to ask, so that way I know what works best for getting the word out.

Ty for welcoming me  .  Vista was pretty fast when i installed it but XP was faster.  I found out this forum because ppl on Yahoo Answers were talking 'bout hijackthis and they gave me this website to read the hijackthis and it was this one.....  Also I think my cpu got slower over time.

A lot of people with slow systems have a big build up of malware on their computer, with a log about twice the size of yours, so in that sense I guess that's pretty good, except now we don't know whats causing the slow down.

Do you use the vista sidebar? Try disabling it, restarting, and see if its any faster.

Do you know what processor you have and how much RAM you have?

You can also try defragmenting your hard drive if you need it, I never noticed much of a difference when I do it, but a lot of people say they see a good improvement in speed.

Lol  well i dont use sidebar my cpu increased in speed just a little tiny bit (It doesn't lag anymore thank god) When i play sims its still a little laggy but overall thanks...
