Audio switch
« on: December 23, 2006, 11:56:31 AM »
I need something like a KMV switch, except for left and right audio (the red and white kind) cables. I want to be able to plug two things in, and switch between them at the ease of a switch or button. I currently have my coimputer hooked up though my stero that way to use my stereo speakers. I got a TV tuner a while back, and I have been using my Nintendo 64 with it, but my sound card, and my TV tuner lack audio ports like that, so I have been having to switch them out of my stereo every time i use my N64.

Why not just get a splitter so you don't have to switch anything?

If they were both being used at the same time though, would they interfere with each other?

If I understand this correctly, your N64 and your computer both are plugged into the stereo system.  right?  You could use them at the same time without any interference, unless you were trying to play sounds from both, and that would sound a little weird.  But no, there would be no actual interference.  Actually I just got 2 of these splitters tonight at RadioShack to use with my stereo system, they're $3.99 each from the store, or $2.95 online:

Well, to use my N64 my computer has to be on, and at that, my computer has different various things that will make sound. If they both just play normally then that's fine, but i don't know if it'll like get confused or something. I have no clue.

No, they won't be confused.  All you're doing is putting 2 audio sources into the same speakers at the same time.  Even if they're playing sounds at the same time, nothing will get confused, it will just sound strange.

As to your original question, I don't think that there is such a thing as an audio switch.  You can get a KVM switch with audio, but not just audio.  (AFAIK)

needs power only when you're running it through cable instead of rca outputs. main reason i got it, it lets me use normal inputs on a tv with no normal inputs.
